Search Engine Revision

October 30th, 2011 Comments off

I would like the search engine revised to the following:

1) the search word or phrase you type in to stay in the unless you delete it. Right now if you type in a keyword, then search, then if you enter the search box again all the words disappear. (sometimes you just want to add another word to the existing word)

2) in admin side the search engines showing are in order by (up) and (down); would like these turned into numbers 1-100 so that if you want 50 to be #1 in order, you just type #1 and it moves it to first position.

3) Also ad boxes placements should show on the pages that have no search results too.

Thank you.

Bing Api

July 1st, 2011 Comments off

I am looking for someone with good knowledge of using Bing’s API:
http://www.bing.com/developers

The project entails creating a simple interface to parse and display “Web”, “Image”, “News”, “RelatedSearch”, and “Ad” results from Bing’s API using JSON. See Table 1 at:
http://www.bing.com/developers/s/API%20Basics.pdf

The search interface and search results layout should be simple and clean. And, the user can search for “Web”, “Images”, and “News” results fluidly without having to retype the search keyword(s).

Technical Requirements:
1- Do not require Javascript to run on browser.
2- Do not collect user information or use cookies.
3- Use Post Request instead of Get so the search keywords are not displayed in the url (prevent third party from knowing search keyword and referrer).
4- Works using SSL.
5- Browser back button preserves query and results.

Fix Search Results

We have a classifieds website www.stamptrader.com If a customer uses the Search it will show the list of results. If a customer clicks on one of the listings and then clicks the Back to view the other results of the search, the list is gone. It just shows a list of items on the website.

Looking to have the results of the search to be there is a customer clicks on the Back to look at more items that come up in the Search results.

We have built many websites with this script. After fixing this on Stamp Trader we will want all updated files sent to us so we can update the other websites too

Website Optimization – Local

September 1st, 2009 Comments off

Overview:
We need a search engine optimization specialist to help rank a website in search engines such as Google, MSN, and Yahoo for local geo-targeted keywords.

Information:
The website has a domain about two years old and is a static html website. Our goal is to rank first to third in the Search engines to outrank a few directories that a client is currently paying monthly fees to be in. As mentioned, the search term is local so it shouldn’t be a very difficult task.

Requirements of Expert:
Please provide your plan to rank high in the search engines and tasks you will complete to optimize the website such as changing headers, alt tags, permalinks, keyword density, etc.

We will not accept any black hat techniques that will cause the site to be penalized with Google.

Also notify if you will provide a bit of link building and what techniques will be used to help drive the website higher in rankings.

Add Search Phrase To Url (asp)

September 1st, 2009 Comments off

Immediate Start

I need an EXPERIENCED ASP.NET 3.5 developer to change the URL on my site, when a search is made.

www.zenostore.co.uk – currently when a search is conducted, the URL will appear always : http://www.zenostore.co.uk/Search/ViewProduct.aspx?ID=0&Qty=0

As you can see – the search term is not contained in this URL.

I want you to make the following happen:

example: If I search for “ipod touch” the search should show:

http://www.zenostore.co.uk/Search/ViewProduct.aspx?search=ipod touch

or: www.zenostore.co.uk/search.asp=”ipod touch”

or similar. As long as the search term is included in URL.

The reason for this: I want to link to specific searches on my site.

At the moment, we have SEO friendly URLs, so there may be some additional configuration required. Please be aware of this.

This is an urgent project and must be completed today. There are also other possible tasks on the same website, which may be available to work on – after completion of this task!

Applicant must speak perfect English.
Applicant must be contactable on IM.

Php Script – Xml Parser

August 20th, 2009 Comments off

Project

Landing Page with XML feed parser (peakclick feed) and redirector..

Traffic will be directed to the domain (domain.com) from the search engines

the script will parse the search query (based on a number of different search engines queries) and create a php page (on the fly) based on that query.

eg. users search query = sony lcd tv

http://www.google.com/search?q=sony+lcd+tv&pws=0&gl=US
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=sony+lcd+tv&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=UTF-8&rd=r1
http://www.bing.com/search?q=sony+lcd+tv&go=&form=QBLH&filt=all&qs=n
etc.

the script will create a page mydomain.com/sony-lcd-tv.php and parse the peakclick feed, i also need a token for the keyword so that i can use other scripts in the temmplate (%keyword% OR something)

the script will also use a mysql db to store the search keywords, then i want to use two variables in the template.

- Last searched Keywords (number of results specified in config.php)
- Top searched Keywords (number of results specified in config.php)

I also want the attached redirector script included in the code. (please post on the pmb if you need more details). If your good with code you should be able to see what its about..

Also attached are the peakclick xml feed details that need to be parsed. I think the best way for this feed to be displayed in the template is to use some kind of token, so that everything that is needed in the

Search Of Mysql Db On Web Site

August 2nd, 2009 Comments off

I am looking for a programmer to create a search script (using PHP) for my web site that will query an existing MySQL database, and return the results to the user. The MySQL database is a simple database of about 2,150 products and includes variables such as: product_name, price, URL, product_ID, category, subcategory, sub_subcategory. There are two parts to this project. The actual search feature that the end user will see, and reports that the only Webmaster will be able to see.

SEARCH: The search script needs to return results by relevance, i.e. the results must show in ascending order the products/categories/subcategories/sub_subcategory that have the most number of search terms matching words in those corresponding tables. The search results must be presented to the user in an organized into category, subcategory, and sub-subcategory — with each being a clickable hypertext link to the respective page (excluding subcategories). The search results must be presented to the user in an attractive/intuitive way and integrated with my web site’s template. (No graphics knowledge will be required for the integration, only basic HTML and JavaScript knowledge as my template uses some JavaScript.)

Because the search term(s) input by the user will be displayed back to the user on the

Photo Upload/search (complete)

July 13th, 2009 Comments off

Recently this code was written for me by a programmer on this site. Unfortunately the code is not working correctly. I have attached a zip file containing the code for the uploader.php in the main directory and the viewer.php in the 2009 directory. I can give you access to the CPanel. Database and tables are created. The uploader does work but I am not convinced that the data is getting to the sql database. When i run the viewer the photos are there but the search feature is not finding any of the photos.

Here is the list of items I need completed on this project:

1 – Make sure that the uploader.php code is correctly working including storing the data in the sql database.

2 – Make sure that the viewer.php code is correctly working. The viewer does work but it automatically showing all photos stored in the directory called 2009. At the top of the viewer is has to options, [HOME] and [SEARCH]. I would like the option [HOME] changed to [ALL].

Viewer should not show any directories until user selects [ALL] which shows all subdirectories located in the 2009 directory which is the way we currently view all photos. If the user selects [SEARCH] then the criteria diplayed in the search form would be viewed only based on the data stored in the sql database.

3 – The search form is not correct. Should be set up that user could select just the date and all photos in sql database with that date would be viewed. Right now the LOCATION field is always populated with one of our office locations. Need to have it blank.

I have tested the search feature and it unable to locate any photos matching my search criteria. I uploaded a few photos and went back and searched for them with no luck.

To be my programmer choice you must communicate very well and must allow me to test the code to ensure it is working before I release any escrow money to you. I can give you access to the Cpanel to work with the sql database.

This project is 98% complete already with the code and a good programmer should be able to complete this quickly. I need a programmer to tweak it. I do have other projects coming up soon using this database.

Urgent- Complex Query Search

June 4th, 2009 Comments off

Ok, we need this quickly. We hired someone to do the work for us and it’s just not where it needs to be.
We are launching a website in a matter of a few days and need quick turn-around.

We need a complex search built that queries several elements on our MS SQL database. The previous programmer built it in .NET but I don’t care what it’s written in.

Here are the project specifics.
We use keyword searches to search “business name” (TABLE: completebusinessdata) and “categories” (CATEGORIES table). We also utilize synonyms (TABLE: SYNONYMS) to replace the keywords with predetermined values, ie remodeling=remodelers.
For example a search for “remodeling contractors” would look for both terms in either the business name or business category. It finds results, and then runs another search using any available synonyms. With the remodeling=remodelers synonym example, the search would turn into “remodelers contractors” and would look for both terms in either the business name or business category. It doesnt matter if a business name was “Tom’s Remodeling Contractors” or “Contractors of Remodeling by Jim” or “Charleston’s Remodelers Contractors” or “Columbia’s Contractors of Remodelers” or IF the business category was titled “Remodeling Contractors” or “Contractors Remodeling” or “Contractor Remodelers” or “Remodelers Contractors”. All of those businesses that had that those search terms in either the business name or category would be returned.
NOW, if the search did not find matches with both “remodeling contractors” or the synonymized version of “remodelers contractors” terms, it would then break apart the original search keywords “remodeling contractors” and the synonymized version “remodelers contractors” and find & return all matches that have “remodeling” “contractors” “remodelers” in either (or both) the business name or business category.
The search ignores these words and does not search-but will search the other values:
shop – shops – service – services – company – companies – store – stores
A two or more term exact match on business name only will then immediately return results.
Triggers should remove special characters, ie ‘C & L’ -> ‘C L’

*—-

Now, a couple of important factors.
1) The search results will be displayed a certain way. We will give you the layout, but it’s pretty basic.
2) We must have quick turn-around within 24-48 hours for testing.
3) Escrow can be made once we see a good working copy. Payment will be released once complete. Escrow will not be made in advance.
4) We do not have a lot of money to spend on this. We can just about guarantee future work though.
5) We can supply you with a development sandbox with access to the DB
6) Generic responses will NOT be considered.

Looking forward to seeing who can tackle this baby.

Mods To Cgi Search Script

May 28th, 2009 Comments off

Hi, thanks for looking at our project!

We are an auto classifieds web site. The web site’s search feature is run by a very simple perl script (search.cgi, attached) which queries the vehicle data that is contained in a tab-delineated, text flatfile database (not sql). The script returns results into an HTML “match template”, or a “nomatch” page if there are no results. The query is passed through the search URL. It’s very simple.

You can see an example of how this currently works by going to http://www.autopages.com/ and typing an automotive search term into the search box at the top.

Here’s what we need — we would like to to add several new capabilities to this search script:

1.) a “sort by” feature at the top of search results, that allows users to sort results by year, price, etc.

2.) Links for search results pages. In other words, if there are 32 records found in a search, and results are returned 10 per page, the results page should be able to have links to page 2 (results 11-20), page 3 (results 21-30), and page 4 (results 31-32). On any given page, the current page number should be displayed as a non-link, and the other pages should be displayed as links. This is something very typical, of course.

3.) If any vehicle in the search results contains “F” in column 11 of its record in the database, an icon should be displayed on that record in the search results. Any record that does not contain “F” in column 11 should not display this icon.

4.) Finally, we would like to have an “add to favorites” feature. Every record displayed in the search results should have a link that, when clicked, causes it to be added to a “favorites” list for that site user. We would like to do this the simple way, with cookies, NOT with a login system. There should be a “favorites” page that can be accessed through a link, and on this “favorites” page, the listings should contain links that allow them to be removed from the favorites list.

So, that’s it — those are the four things we need.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
I realize that all of this can be done easily by simply replacing the search script with a new one — there are hundreds of scripts with these features already written, and available for free. However, what we need is for OUR script to be modified with these new features. The reason for this is that, although it’s simple, our script contains many small functions that are customized to our site and very important — for example, it rewrites photo URLs, constrains overflow text, reformats prices, etc.

So, it’s important to us to retain our current script. We just want these new features added on to our current one. So please, no replacement scripts.

The attached archive (files.zip) contains the search script (search.cgi), the setup file (setup.pl), the database (database.exm) and the match template, so you can see how it all works. It’s very simple.

Please let me know if you have any questions … thanks!

Fix Php/mssql Search

May 20th, 2009 Comments off

We are currently rebuilding a site currently active which searches through an SQL database of video and audio clips. The main method of searching the system is via keyword. We need to have it modified so that the results are displayed based on relevancy, similar to Google.

To clarify, currently in the system if a user searches using the entry ‘holiday toys’ the system provides results of ALL assets containing either one of the search words (holiday OR toys in this case). Instead, what SHOULD happen is first in the results should be any commercial containing BOTH words, then afterwards, spots should be listed containing just one or the other.

Essentially we want to use the Google approach, where the results are listed based on relevancy to the search.

Quick example: 3 keywords searched:

Results listing in order:
1.Results containing all 3 keywords
2.Results containing any 2 of the 3 keywords
3.Results containing any 1 of the 3 keywords

Each asset has multiple attribues in the DB (director, agency, category, etc. The system is correctly searching all of these fields. The search needs to utilize all field when doing the relevancy ranking.

Looking for a developer who can do this right away, and has experience in RELAVANCY based searching.

Note: This system is Windows 2008 server, PHP with MSSQL 2008, NOT mySQL.

Thanks, and please leave any questions in PMB

Fix Coppermine Photo Gallery

May 14th, 2009 Comments off

I have a coppermine photo gallery (PHP driven)and you can enter a keyword in the search box and it pulls up photos that match that keyword. However, if there is more than one page of results, and you click a link to get to the next page, you get an error message stating “albums do not exist”. Also the cloud tags don’t work, the links appear but if you click the linked text you get the same error message.

I need that fixed and two other customizations: an intro on the main gallery page and the search field placed in the main template that will show on all pages. Right now you have to click a link to get to the search box for the photos which is a separate page.

Keyword Cloud Program

May 2nd, 2009 Comments off

There are plenty of these types of programs out there already, but I want a script that is easy to set up and has the following features below.

Summary: This ‘keyword cloud’ will be a php class object that can be added to any webpage on a particular site. It will ‘grab and store’ all search engine terms that a surfer uses to get to the web page. An example script would be: http://www.willmaster.com/library/php/getting-search-terms.php. That program grabs the search terms from several different search engines. That is just the first part of the program, though. There should also be a display piece which shows a typical ‘tag cloud’.

Here are the features:

1. Easy Install – Like a WordPress install. There should be an install script with this to set it up to either log to a flat file or to a MySQL Database

2. Ability to log from many search engines (not just the Google, Yahoo, MSN in the script above). This should be a simple setting in the configuration file.

3. The ability to set up a template file to display the ‘Tag Cloud’ so that when the user runs the function to return the tag cloud, it will bring the results back with the template

Tag Cloud:

The tag cloud should have the ability to show a tag cloud based upon the PAGE (i.e., just search terms for that page) -OR- the ability to show a tag cloud based upon the site.

The tag cloud keywords should be the ‘Search Engine Term’ as the anchor text and title + the link to the page that the surfer landed on when coming from the search engine.

That is it! This is a fairly easy project and needs to be done quickly.

Thank you.

Gather Search Engine Results

April 30th, 2009 Comments off

I need a program that will automatically put the “view source” results of phrases that would normally be entered into search engines into a .dat file.

I currently have a program that drops multiple requested phrases into a .dat file.

And the search engine names are dropped into another .dat file.

I need an add on program that will run on the client’s side. It will grab the information from the .dat files and automatically get the results from the search engines without any input or interaction from the client. The program would run in the background, gather the results from each phrase and drop the results into another .dat file.

As an example, when the program would be run, if one of the phrases was buying and selling widgets and Google was one of the search engines, everything you would normally see if you manually clicked on “view source” would automatically be dropped into a file called /reports/google/buying_and_selling_widgets.dat

I would also need the source code to the program.

Web2.0 + Small Mysql Db

April 2nd, 2009 Comments off

Hello, I need a very small project that need:
1) Simple Web2.0 Design
2) Database MySQL to manage data

What I need to do ?

1) Web2.0 Design:
a very simple layout (fixed width) of only 1 webpage (the homepage) that need to contain:
a) Header (very simple, it not need words like logo or something, just a simple header without logo)
b) 2 Buttons (Home – Contacts)
c) Search form (to search a file)
d) Under the Search form it need to have 2 columns (49% each size) that will contain:
e) Latest Added Files (extracted from MySQL)
f) Most Viewed Files (extracted from MySQL)

2) MySQL Database to handle data:

a) I need to insert 2 parameters:
b) File name (imagetest.gif)
c) Description with html tags (<b>Image of Cartoon</b>….)
Conditions:
d) If the file name exists then UPDATE the second parameter (description) else INSERT the filename and the description.

e) I do NOT need an Admin Panel for manage tables/values.
f) The filename need to be clickeable, so if an user click over one filename listed on “Latest Added Files” or “Most Viewed Files” it will print (under the search form) the filename and the description.
g) If an user search a file, the result will be printed under the search form

Note:
The results of a search or the result of a file will be printed between the search form and the Most Viewed Files / Latest Added Files columns.

An example of a very simple web2.0 design for a search homepage is like:

Modify Keyword Tool

March 30th, 2009 Comments off

I need a little work done on a keyword tool. The tool pulls information from Keyword Discovery, so it uses a captcha. This problem is that after someone types a word in the field, types the captcha, then hits search, the captcha reappears while the search is being conducted. This confuses users into thinking that they need to re-enter the captcha info when they really do not.

Ideally, I need the captcha to not reappear the second time after the search has been initiated and also a progress bar needs to be displayed to let users know the search is in progress.

Use the tool to see what I am referring to: http://www.trafficgush.com/members/#5

Thanks.

Enhance Search Function & Misc

March 27th, 2009 Comments off

SEARCH ENGINE ISSUES

Looking for someone to enhance the search capability functions for our web site. Currently the search functionality is very limited. The web site address is http://www.giddyupflix.com.

A few examples of what I mean.

First example:
A user searches for “Clinton Anderson” in the search field only brings 18 results. When the user uses the search by trainer field and chooses “Clinton Anderson” it produces 56 results. Which shows that the search capability is not picking up the Trainer name field in the search function. The search resulsts should be the same as the search by trainer results.

Second example:
A user searches for key words “clipping horse”, which produces no results. However, this SHOULD bring up results such as:
http://www.giddyupflix.com/detail.php?id=380
http://www.giddyupflix.com/detail.php?id=631

There are more, those are just a few examples. Obviously the search function is only looking for phrases where the words have to be in perfect conjuction (for example if the user searched by “clipping your horse” it WOULD bring up the http://www.giddyupflix.com/detail.php?id=380 title. Same scenario if they used “clinton anderson clipping”, it should bring up that same title based on his name and a key word.

So basically the search terms should be as expansive as possible and should include the trainer, title and any key words in the description in any random order whatsoever to produce as many varied results as possible. However, the search functions should not search other areas of the site (i.e. privacy policy, about us, help, etc), just the DVD section.

OTHER MINOR ISSUES

I would like a “Next” Link for all search results at the bottom of the page as well as at the top (currently the link is just at the top)

I would like a PHONE NUMBER field added to the member sign up that is captured in the backend ADMIN Member area along with their existing information.

I would like the ability to add CANADA to member SIGN UP page and ORDER checkout page (will need to add whatever fields necessary for Canada shipping requirements)

One last thing is to delete a field in the Member rental queue which is the “genre” field and replace with the actual link to the DVD title. The “genre” field takes up way too much real estate because many titles are listed in multiple genres. I would prefer to have the link to the “Trainer” instead so basically take Genre out completely and replace with Trainer. The Trainer name will be in that field with a link to all DVDs by that trainer if they click on it (see screenshot for reference)

I think that covers it for now. This is a LIVE site, so this will have to be handled delicately. (i.e. back up existing database and files before modifications)

I would also like to know when bids are submitted a timeframe for how long you think it will take to complete the project and when you can start.

Any questions or concerns please PM me, thanks!

Quick Open Realty Site Updates

March 24th, 2009 No comments

I need to make some updates to my site that was built on the Open Realty CMS.

I need the following updates:
- Create the following sublinks under the ‘Rentals’ menu link: ‘Fee Rentals’ and ‘No-Fee Rentals’.

- Both the ‘Fee Rentals’ and ‘No-Fee Rentals’ pages should have a list of 3 recent listings at the top, followed by a search below it. The search will only search that subcategory (e.g. search form on ‘Fee Rentals’ page will only search ‘Fee Rentals’ listings, etc.)

- Add a category in the listing template manager for ‘Rental Type’. The available values for this category will be ‘Fee Rental’ and ‘No-Fee Rental’.

- ‘Rental’ listings on the Search results pages should have the ‘Rental Type’ category included in the listing result as well as the individual property page. On the search results page, it will appear underneath the ‘Property Type’ category. On the individual listing page, it should appear at the top.

Please respond if you have 3-5 years of PHP/MySQL programming experience, 2-3 years of Open Realty CMS programming experience and you are capable of completing these updates in a timely manner. Thank you.

Create Brightcove Video Search

March 23rd, 2009 No comments

I need a very experienced Javascript/AJAX programmer (Brightcove experience a major plus) to add a video search functionality to my site that uses the Brightcove player.

A sample video search manager is already built and available, but I need you to use the Brightcove video API to modify it to look/work the way I need it. See the links below:
- Brightcove Video Search App: http://help.brightcove.com/developer/docs/mediaapi/javascript/vm-example.cfm (Click the “Click here to see the VideoManager application.” text to open the search app.)

- Brightcove Media API: http://help.brightcove.com/developer/docs/mediaapi/media-API-getting-started.cfm

My site has 4 different Brightcove player pages. The search form would appear underneath the player. When the person clicks the ‘Search’ button, it will load results underneath on the same page. Clicking a result video will load the video in the player on that page.

Also, the site uses the Ning platform. You will be given webdav and account access. I can provide you with the player embed code so you can test locally.

I have attached 2 screenshots: one of how it will look before a search is entered, and one of how the search results will look.

Please include links to 3-5 PHP-based projects that are similar. Place a bid only if you know what you’re doing and have 5+ years of experience. Please ask me about any portion that you may be unsure of.

Thank you.
