This project is to translate existing subtitles into good Hindi.

The file for the subtitles is in SBV format (open in notepad), and is attached to this posting. No machine or software translation is acceptable. Your work will be checked, so if you choose to attempt a software translation, your work will not be accepted. You will be expected to think about the meaning of the words, and not just make robot-like renderings. You can leave the English in place, and add the Hindi below the english, if you want to speed up the process of having your work checked, and get paid sooner.

If you want to provide a sample of your work, do NOT translate from the begging. Choose a section near the middle. Some of the vocabulary is technical, and some is philosophical. An informal tone with formality in translating technical vocabulary is preferred. There are many dialects of Hindi, and we require the kind heard on Hindi-language doordarshan news. There will be words you will not understand. When this happens, send me the word, and I will try to figure out a translation that works in the context.

The subtitles are for a video of a lecture (one hour and 22 minutes), so please include your educational level (how many years of university studies you have and what you matriculated in) in your postings or bid comments. This is a perfect job for a retired university professor.

The file contains time stamps, and these must NOT be changed at all. If there are any problems with the time stamps, then the file won’t work, the project will not have been completed, and you’ll have to fix them. A little care in your work will prevent this.

A native Hindi speaker is preferred. The subject matter (reincarnation) may invite Hindus to bid. That’s fine, but in the end, “Ishwara Allah Tere Nam …”, so we will consider bids from anyone.

This project consists of watching youtube lecture videos and making corrections to existing captions / subtitles. You will have to watch youtube video lectures, and make corrections to the text.

The captions are in SBV format, but should be edited in a text editor, such as Notepad.

Qualifications: you must have excellent English skills (native English speakers preferred), and be a fast typist.

You will be provided with an unedited transcription file for each of the five video lectures (one of them is already partially complete), as well as the URL for each of the videos. You will have to listen to each of the videos, and make corrections to the existing transcriptions. There are “time markers” for each of the transcription files, and these must not be touched at all. If you make changes to the “time markers”, the transcription files will no longer work, and the project will not have been completed. This is crucial.

Please give me your price based on price-per-video-hour. Each video is about 90 min. long. You can bid on doing one 90 min. video. If your first transcription file works out well, you will be given more work to do.

If there is a word you do not understand, you will be expected to communicate (by e-mail) and ask about the correct spelling. If there is a word that is used often and you do not understand it, you can misspell it, but you must do so the same way each time the word occurs so that a “find-and-replace” utility can be used to correct all of your misspellings at once. Some are to be expected, so don’t be concerned about a few terms you don’t understand.

This is less work than transcription, because much of the work has already been done in the initial machine transcription, but it is also more than simple editing, because you will have to listen to the videos while you work.

I’m managing a video site where I mostly use divx web player on my site.
I use WordPress as CMS and add videos from divx video sites like movshare.net or stagevu.com

I get an embed code and insert them in post. What I want is to be more accessible to my visitors.
The videos do not have subtitles by default. but I want to make it able to display external subtitles on videos. while watching videos, visitors will be able to select subtitles which I upload as srt. subtitle files..

I had a 3 minutes wmv file and srt subtitles file and i want to have this on one avi file with subtitles included on the avi file.

In good quality and other optimized for web playback.

I am looking at building a web-based tool to enable translations of subtitles. The basic features include the following:

1. Uploading of a subtitle file (see attached for format) in main language (usually English) for translation as well as a video file the subtitle should be displayed on top of.

2. Subtitle translation window in a triple split view, there is a split view for the original language and the language you are translating to as well as the video playing beside it so you can always see the parts of the video you are currently translating. Each subtitle is an input field, you can write into and there should be pagination after 50 input fields to not have too much speed issues. Edits should be saved instantly via AJAX.

3. User Access Setup, so i can give individual translators a login under which they can then only translate the subtitle into their target language. They can not touch the timecodes of the subtitles and they can’t change the source subtitle or anything similar.

4. Video preview should enable the translators to constantly see if what he has translated is matching the video. When everything is done his work can be marked as final, which triggers an e-mail to a pre-configured e-mail adress.

5. Interface to download the finished subtitles, create projects, upload the video and subtitle file, configure languages, users, permissions etc.

Those are the basic features. Just to sum up the idea to make it clear what the system needs to be able to in the end:

I create a video with english subtitles. I upload both video and subtitles in a pre-configured format (subtitle format see attached, video format can be defined). I setup my 10 target languages (anything from Arabic to Russian), create users that will do the translation and send them access to the system. They then login, see the video in english, see the subtitles, translate the subtitles through the system, preview it, approve it. I then download all the final subtitle files and compose the subtitles in a DVD Authoring program.

One last very very important thing. The whole system needs to be UTF8 compliant, because of Arabic, Chinese etc.
