I have an Excel Sheet where I have consolidated contact information (name, address, etc.) from several different lists. There are many people/records that show up on several of the lists (“duplicates”), so I have added a field called “Group” to keep track of which list or lists each person was on so that after we eliminate all duplicate entries we end up with just one entry for each unique record yet can still know which lists/Groups each record was associated with originally.
I will then use this data to upload into a new CMS I will be using for my business and I need to have accurate data and be able to associate each records with the list (Group) or lists (Groups) it was originally on.
The records will be matched by a First Name and Last Name match and then I will give you a hierarchy to use indicating which list/Group will have it’s data kept for the new merged Master List. All Group names will be consolidated into a single “Group” field for each record and contain all original Group names that matched by First Name and Last Name – comma delimited.
You will send this list back to me in MS Excel.
It is really pretty straight forward for anyone expert in Excel and/or programming. The Sheet has about 3,500 records on it and after Duplicate Elimination I expect to have about 1,000 final records.
Please be able to start this job Friday morning (Central time US) and complete by Saturday morning 10 a.m.

I have a large direct mailing list of prospects and need a simple application to record and display ‘Sales’ or ‘unsold returns’ of samples. I have detailed the following plan to get this done:
1.Copy old data into new table
- copy customer records from old access database table (around 100,000 records)
- check for duplicate entries
- insert fields to my specification
- Insert 16 digit unique key numbers for each customer record
2.Database Design
- Setup 4 database tables with relationships
- Fields and relationships have been decided, but advice from your personal programming experience would be very helpful.
3.GUI
- create gui to specifications (Java preferable as viewing on Mac but will be implemented on a windows system eventually)
- Simple button Graphics will be supplied.
- Security Feature: block to stop the use of certain aspects of the GUI without a password (not on the database itself, just on the GUI features).
- Create data filter interface with drop down menu and checkboxes of filter options to display customer records and their related data
4.Routines
- Routine to create .csv etc from data query for mail merge into MS Word
- Routine to add records to certain tables in a batch process using groups of unique keys typed in by the user.

I would like to understand estimated cost.
I’m running a very large PostgreSQL database. At some point in the past a developer created a duplicate removal script for me. Problem is I have no documentation telling me what it does. I only have a link from where I can run this scriopt. I haven’t needed to use it in a very long time but recently uploaded new records to the database. I started the script running and removed what it determined to be duplicate records.
The problem is I don’t really know what logic it is using to determine if something is a duplicate. Fields were added to the database after the development of this script. Likely it does not account for these in determining what is a duplicate. I’m concerned running this will remove records that are not duplicates but have some fields in common. As I mentioned I started the script and after it ran for many hours I stopped it and checked the count. Many records were removed but I’m not sure what records. I do know there are duplicates in the database so likely it did fine.
The job is only for someone to locate the script on the server and write something explaining what this script is doing. I’m not asking to have it modified as that will be a seperate job. For now I just would like to know exactly what it is set to do. As stated, I have the link to run it but don’t see the script. You will need to find it.

Extract and organize data records from two online exhibitor/business lists and deliver an output file in .xls format with column headings to match final spec;

Place each element in its own field of CSV or XLS file. Business name, street address, city, state, country, telephone, fax, website, booth #, description, brands, categories (up to 4 levels deep, each displayed separately as Cat1, Cat2, Cat3, etc), and Contacts (up to 5 contacts, each displayed separately as Contact1, Contact2, Contact3, etc).
The categories are displayed as parts of a much larger hierarchy, as shown by the solid bullet, then by indenting. Would like to preserve the hierarchy and display each as a sep column in the following format (for example);
Cat1 is Beverages
Cat2 is Beverages->Hot Beverages
Cat3 is Beverages->Hot Beverages->Tea
A few more details to follow but most of the project is stated here.

1.enter serialnumber ( hit enter or tab)
2.select name from dropdown list ( hit enter or tab)
3.scan or enter part number ( hit enter)

4.click command button ‘add to database’
5.click button view/edit records- you will see records
problem- if you enter more than on part number- let say all three- then about 6 to 8 records show up in the database table.
Not sure what I did to cause this: was working right.

if I add a different prenumber- i need it to fill the next records – but not to delete the number inputed first.

when you open the database- a form comes up- you will notice the cursor flashing in the second field pre-number-
If you enter a number there – it will fill each record with that number.
If you try to enter a number in the number field- it will reject you- I have found that if i make serial number in tbl2 primary key- it will let me enter number here.
But this is not possible- since serial number has duplicates in real database. ( also only enters same number in all records)

I have a system written using MS Visual Studio 2008 (VB) with a DevExpress ASPxGrid bound to an MS SQL Server (2005) DB. The grid contains data records and is configured to allow selection of multiple records.
Each record contains information that includes a pointer to a server-based .pdf file, defined with an URL path. There is a print button on the form. There is also a check box on the form, Use Default Printer.
The user selects multiple records and presses the print button. If the Use Default Printer check box is checked, then the system automatically does whatever is necessary to spool the files associated with all selected records to the default printer (Windows). If the button is NOT checked, the the system presents the user with a printer selection dialog and then, after the printer selection is made, spools all files to the selected printer.
This must work with either FireFox or IE (if the user is using Safari, they deserve what they get…
