Make Some Tweaks To A Ruby On Rails Site

January 3rd, 2012 Comments off

I have moved a ROR site from one server to another.
The old developer created the Ruby on Rails site using PostGreSQL Database.
I had it converted to MySql.

The site is up and from the outside looks fine.

but I can’t upload or save anything in the back office.

I have been told by the previous dev that it is a permissions issue.

I spoke with the hosting company they said all the permissions are set correctly.

I need someone with Ruby on Rails experience to go in and give my site …

Set-up Ruby On Rails Site

December 7th, 2011 Comments off

I have a Ruby On Rails site I am moving from an old server to a new server.

The old server has given me all the files needed to set up the site.

I asked my hosting company to set the site up.

They were unable to set up the site because the previous host was using PostgreSQL and they are using MySQL.

So everything is set up except for the database dump. I tried converting the PostgreSQL database dump using http://www.lightbox.ca/pg2mysql.php but for some reason I am getting an error….

Postgresql Duplicate Removal Script

June 27th, 2011 Comments off

I’m running a very large PostgreSQL database. At some point in the past a developer created a duplicate removal script for me. Problem is I have no documentation telling me what it does. I only have a link from where I can run this scriopt. I haven’t needed to use it in a very long time but recently uploaded new records to the database. I started the script running and removed what it determined to be duplicate records.

The problem is I don’t really know what logic it is using to determine if something is a duplicate. Fields were added to the database after the development of this script. Likely it does not account for these in determining what is a duplicate. I’m concerned running this will remove records that are not duplicates but have some fields in common. As I mentioned I started the script and after it ran for many hours I stopped it and checked the count. Many records were removed but I’m not sure what records. I do know there are duplicates in the database so likely it did fine.

The job is only for someone to locate the script on the server and write something explaining what this script is doing. I’m not asking to have it modified as that will be a seperate job. For now I just would like to know exactly what it is set to do. As stated, I have the link to run it but don’t see the script. You will need to find it.

Thank you for your consideration.

Postgresql Connectivity Issue

May 27th, 2011 Comments off

I’m running PostgreSQL 8.3. I rebooted the server yesterday and PostgreSQL did not start. I attempted to start in WHM and while it says it is starting it does not. I have no idea why as it worked perfect before the reboot. This project is only to do the following.

Fix postgreSQL issue that is keeping it from starting and make sure it is again connecting to the search form. Currently I see messages on the web page like this:

A Database Error Occurred
Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.

Or like this:

Warning: pg_connect() [function.pg-connect]: Unable to connect to PostgreSQL server: could not connect to server: Connection refused Is the server running on host “localhost” and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? in /home/search/public_html/m/db.php on line 11

Fatal error: Call to undefined function show() in /home/search/public_html/m/db.php on line 15

Please only bid if you can do this job within 24 hours.

Thank you,

Rick

U.r.g.e.n.t :: C++ / Sql App

March 7th, 2010 Comments off

* Description:

You’ll need to write a simple console program (eg: ~300 lines) in standard C++ that takes in an SQL table as input, connects to a DB (PostgreSQL) and gives the required output, as described in the document. (Attached)

* Requirements:

You’ll need to have access to a PostgreSQL backend and the code you write should be compatible with the g++ compiler

* The program should be well commented/documented:

Most importantly, you should describe clearly the header comment like how to compile it, what should I do to run your program, and so on (Like what all libs required, db connection specs etc).

* Due Date:

I need this done ASAP, at the most – within one day.

* Attachment Details:

– The full and exact requirements are described in the .doc file. Please go thru it throughly to understand what’s expected of you and which areas of the code to concentrate on.

– an SQL file is provided for input, it also describes the table you’ll need to create first

– To make it easy for you, I’ve also included complete reference documents (pdfs), and sample code

– To make it EVEN MORE easy, theres a folder containing an entire project which deals with a similar task!

* Bidding Tips:

If you’re new to ScriptLance, please show me samples of previous work (or if you can quickly whip up some sample code related to this project, that’ll be awesome!)

Google Map Interface

January 10th, 2010 Comments off

The aim is to retrieve google maps satellite images into postgreSQL to be used as a layer, the application in j2ee has WMS link to google maps satellite image as a background of the geocoded elements( layer in postgreSQL), this should be done for free, apparently google maps does not provide this web service.
in short, importing google maps satellite images to geoserver instead of posting the geocoded elements( layer) as a kml to google earth.
Please give a proof of concept, a general explanation of how it will be done, as well as the period it will take to be developed.

Edit C# Application

December 2nd, 2009 Comments off

Hello,

I have a completed C# Application but i have a couple of things i need to edit on it, first to explain what it does, you import text into a window, it takes playernames from this and runs a query to the postgreSQL database and displays stats from postgreSQL in an output box

Now it works perfectly on small to medium database and where the username has 10-20k records but i have 1 player that has 300k records and it gives a .net framework error for this.

So youll just need to fix this bug.

1) The other changes are also quite simple. there are 25 tickboxes in the application, just add a button that unticks all the boxes at once.

2) Theres a window where you paste the text names into again just have a button that clears this so you can add new text instead of having the user manually delete the text

3) There is a dropdown list with a couple of options, it should remember the last option they choose.

4) For the 25 tick boxes its set so they can choose up to 10, it should also remember what boxes were ticked last time it was run.

I have all the source codes and its designed in C# and runs off a postgreSQL database, i will provide you with the source code files to double check before you accept the project but only after i have narrowed it down to 1 or 2 people as i dont want to be giving away the source code

Ill also attach the .net framework error if that helps, youll also need to supply full source codes and files for the fixed version. For whoever gets selected there will be ongoing improvements for the next couple of weeks needed but just bid for the above improvements for now

Postgresql Installation

November 20th, 2009 Comments off

We would like to install postgresql to our servers to server our webpage.

We have the following architecture :
2 load balancer (supermicro P4, 3GRAM, 200GB RAID disk), 2 systemx ibm 3650 server (48GRAM/server), 1 ibm ds3400 shared storage.

The shared storage has redundant controllers and the storage is connected to the servers through redundant optical cable. The loadbalancer is redundant too. The load balancers choose the less loaded server to serve the webpage requests.

The system is working, the shared storage is working, the web load balancing is working. I need some help only for installing postgresql.

I have gone throught the postgresql documentation as I see there is two clustering solution.
- pgpool (http://pgpool.projects.postgresql.org/)
- pgcluster (http://pgcluster.projects.postgresql.org/1_3/pglb_conf.html)

What I need :
- one ip address/port to connect from webapplication
- two postgresql server running on the 2 ibm server accesing the same database stored on the shared storage.
- redundant load balancing

I need somebody who has experience to install postgresql cluster in same architecture. I need advice and help to install the postgres server. I would like to install if it’s possible so I need a “howto”…

anyway, if you has experience and you can install the system, contact me and we will discuss to process.

Automated Program For Poker

November 4th, 2009 Comments off

This is quite a complex project so please feel free to ask questions via PM but heres the basic overview.

Basically youll need to get the information from the poker client, i guess this can be done via several methods, screen scraping, OCR, image recognition or possibly a much easier method which ill discuss in a moment.

It will also need to get information such as the 5 cards drawn on the table, the persons 2 cards thats playing and the betting action, this all appears in a chat window so if you can get uninterupted access to that then you probably wont need screenscraping, OCR etc

You can discuss the pros on cons of which is the better method via pm but id like the most reliable version.

So once weve all the information about the cards, the players name and whos in what position (all in the player chat window) then we need to automate the program to do various tasks based on the cards, players name and also 1 other thing:

In the postgreSQL database is information attached to each of the players name, so we now make automated decision based on the cards and certain values assosiated with the players in the postgreSQL database.

Again its quite complicated and thats a brief overview, if your interested in this then feel free to take this to PM to discuss further. I would advise that we wait until weve everything fully discussed before making a bid.

Postgresql To Mysql Site

October 23rd, 2009 Comments off

I need to convert a postgreSQL site into a MySQL site. I have a postgreSQL dump. The final website may need a bit of adaptation. But the site is quite simple, it’s a voting system.

Adaptation means that you will have to make sure that the program works OK with the MySQL database. My hosting doesn’t allow postgreSQL. This is the reason.

we need to have an optimized postgresql backend for openNMS.
It is unknown as of this point if we have shared storage (san/iscsi).
redhat 5.x will be used. our choice of clustering solution between RHCS, heartbeat, or vcs.
however we choose to use/configure the 4 node cluster.
hp proliant servers.
I will implement the project, basically what i’ll need from the programmer/administrator is a step by step guide, and remote support during install process.

Iphone Song Request App & Site

August 30th, 2009 Comments off

Two developments
1. Simple website interface & database.
2. iPhone application

This iPhone application will allow “requester” users to use their phone to request music selections when visiting a dance club.
The “dance club” user can look at requests for only their club.

a. The “requester” will create a profile through the iPhone application or webite.
b. The “requester” user will select a club from a list found on our online database, enter a “club code #” if they know it, or using current GPS location.
c. The “requester” user will then search for and select a song name by title, artist, or album. The phone will perform searches from data on our server.
d. When the “requester” user presses submit, the iPhone application will add the request to the website database.
e. Each request will store the requestor information, time & date.
f. The iphone application will remember the user’s favorite clubs and favorite songs so the application does not have to access the database everytime the user wants to make a request.

Website Development

1.”Dance club” user will create a profile on the website. Including, adderss location information, gps location and contact information.
2.”Dance club” user can see the list of all requests.
3. Requests will be organized by day. Only one day will be shown per results page.
4. Requests will be deleted from the server database automatically after they are 30 days old.
5. If multiple “requestors” request the same song, then it is listed once with the number of times requested that day. “Dance club” user can click on this song and the users will be listed under.
6. Website will give the “dance club” user a club code # that they can share with customers (as above).

7. Develop PHP website pages to give the same operation as iPhone application to a “requester” user who wants to use the website instead of the iPhone.
8. Allow website to show a list of clubs and their “club codes”. Sort by country, state/region, city.

We will provide programmer with a PostgreSQL database with sample data and a simple PHP CMS website on our server they can modify. Programmer is required to program web pages using PHP Smarty templating method.

Screen Lock Program

August 29th, 2009 Comments off

Background:

I play a lot of poker on the internet, when I am having a losing session I often find it hard to quit the games I am playing so generally play worse and lose more. To prevent this happening I have stop loss amount set – this is an amount of money that if I lose I quit the games. The trouble is that sometimes I don’t stick to this stop loss which is why I would like a little program created that will do this for me.

My Proposal:

Currently I play poker on two main poker sites (pokerstars.net and fulltiltpoker.com). When I am playing I have third party statistics software (holdemmanager.net) running in the background which collects information from all past hands and stores it in a postgreSQL database. I require a small program that also runs in the background and queries this postgreSQL database every few minutes to see if my stop loss amount has been reached. If it has then the program needs to close the poker software and lock my computer screen for a set amount of time (just freeze it so I can’t use the mouse or do anything without rebooting the computer).

Requirements:

-Closes the poker software I have open (needs to work with pokerstars.net and fulltiltpoker.com software)
-Locks my computer screen for set amount of time
-Simple GUI in which I can set variables (lock time, stop loss amount)
-Easy to read and update code so can be added onto in future

Small details:

Free trials of the statistics software holdemmanager.net be downloaded for testing, same with the poker sites. I’m not looking for a program with a fancy GUI just something which is simple and does the job

Postgresql Database Design

May 6th, 2009 Comments off

I need a good design for a relational database to be implemented in PostgreSQL.

It’s supposed to be used in a movie-related website.

Very soon I will add the fields that I *think* are required. Feel free to think on your own and add / change the fields and the tables as you believe it’s better.

I will pay 3 programmers the same amount of money (basically I will end up paying 3 winners). I will invite you all 33 in a group chat and let you discuss the pros and cons of each other’s proposed design, until you’ll agree on a final one.

Last word: don’t bid as if I’m a banker and you’re Bruce Momjian. I’m not a banker, and you’re not Bruce.

Database Sorting Program

April 13th, 2009 Comments off

Hello,
My name is Garrett Goldsmith. I’m 13 and I have started a business that’s going pretty well but I need an edge on my competition.

I need a program written that will sort through a database daily and extract listings based on certain criteria. It is a membership database accessed with my username and password.

My budget is $1000 – $1500

I will be paying FAST through Scriptlance by PayPal.

I would like to thank you for reading my project.

Sincerely,
Garrett Goldsmith

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Our exact needs are as follows:

My son buys items and then tries to sell them at a higher price. He belongs to a membership site that lists the available items each day. There are tens of thousands of items for him to analyze to try to find the ones with the highest likelihood of selling. The membership site also lists potential prospects for each item, however, each item must be clicked on individually to see these prospects.

He needs a program that will run a scan once daily to make it easier for him to find the items that are most likely to be in high demand by examining each item in the following ways:

1) find out if there are .biz, .net, .info, etc, sites matching the product site and if any are owned by the same owner

2) find out if there are websites with similar names to the sites products he’s reviewing, for example, redshoes, redshoe, shoered, etc

3) find out if a dashed version of the site or similar sites exists, for example, red-shoes, red-shoe, shoe-red, etc.

4) find contact info for any of the above found sites, such as email AND phone (fax or mobile if possible) AND it must determine if the email contact info is still operational.

5) determine the number of incoming links for each site above and have an elimination process based on a number of incoming links that he can determine at will.

6) determine the amount of traffic to each and have an elimination process based on an amount he can determine at will.

7) be able to rank or list the data by any of the above parameters

8) The membership site already has a buy mechanism. The program you write should be able to activate it when certain parameters he can select are met.

The technology stack is as follows:
-Linux
-Apache
-PostgreSQL
-Perl or PHP
XHTML, CSS or Javascript

We look forward to receiving your bid.

Sincerely,
Cynthia (Garrett’s mom)
