The job is to extract quotes from about 80 newspaper and magazine stories and make an ordered list that includes the quote, source, and date. Below are the steps required:
You will get:
A well-organized list of about 80 newspaper and magazine articles ranging in length from a few hundred to a few thousand words. All are available on the web and a url is included. You may need to establish a free account on some of the sites, such as the New York Times, to access the articles. This step is generally very fast, and can be done with any email address. For any articles that are not immediately accessible via web access, I will send electronic copies of the text.
Your job is to:
*Quickly use the search function to find quotes by two people: ‘personA’ and ‘personB’
*Copy and paste these quotes to a text document.
*Organize the text document so that quotes by personA appear on one list, and quotes by personB appear on a second list.
*At the end of each quote, on a separate line (or lines) should be the URL, the name of the publication where the story was published, and the data the story was published.
Only direct quotes should be copied. However, if there is text between two quoted phrases (see example below), the entire section should be copied.
EXAMPLE: “I didn’t like that particular playground,” said personA, scratching his head and looking perplexed. “There was something odd about it.” ‘
Even if the two parts of the quotes are separated by several lines, both sections should be included. When uncertain, include more rather than less.
It is not necessary to read the entire articles. The goal is simply to extract the quoted material.
