Configure Ftp On Webmin

November 3rd, 2009 Comments off

===== I have had to post this again as it is urgent and programmer I choose has not responded, this is urgent and needs fixing asa[ =====

I have just replaced an old unmetered server, the old server has webmin intalled and configured with an ftp client, I had someone set it up for me but hes no longer around.

If you are familiar with webmin then this should be a very quick job and imagine it would take you less than an hour, probably 10 minutes

I will desccribe my problem just so you know what the job is about

webmin is installed on the new server, I have installed the proftpd module, I have imported the users from old server that has webmin insalled (older but doesnt matter)

problem is that when I try and login via ftp I get the error “password not accpted unable to login” the thing is the password is correct as I even changed it in webmin just to be sure, I have been on this most of last night and today and cant get anywhere, any one used to webmin and think they can do this?

the only thing I have noticed is that the old server is using a different ftp module vsftpd instead of proftpd but I can find it in the webmin control panel

I need this done asap and please dont be stupid in your pricing, if you are familiar with webmin it should take no time at all

regards

Backup

June 30th, 2009 Comments off

2 wordpress blogs inactive (just move database & files associated w/ it and setup new WP through 1 click install)
1 esvon classifieds (only a few postings barely any data) + 1 mysql db
2 other small simple scripts w/ 2 mysql database
5 wordpress databases migrate over to new server and setup

you will need to make sure this all works once admins move everything.

Our hosting control panel is getting ready for migration to new updated hosting hsphere w/ 1 click install of wordpress & other various scripts. in order to do this we need a complete backup of all web related data (All files you have uploadeddatabases).

you will need to backup files and databases then once the hosting system admins migrate the control panel you will need to make sure that all the sites work properly

theres about 10 blogs total (they are very small) and should be a piece of cake to move

Thank you for contacting our technical support team.

Before we can perform a control panel migration for your account, there are several things we need to bring to your attention and require your confirmation. You must ensure you have a complete backup of all web related data which includes the following:

* All files you have uploaded
* Databases
* Email content

Below is a list of new features which are available for our Linux plans:

* Operating System: CentOS release 5.2 (Final)
* apache-1.3.37
* php-5.2.6 or php-4.4.8
* ImageMagick-6.2.8.0-4.el5_1.1
* Perl(v5.8.8) without mod_perl support
* python-2.4.3-21.el5
* OpenSSL – 0.9.8b
* hsphere-frontpage-5.0-11
* gd-2.0.33-9.4.el5_1.1
* phpBB – 3.0.1
* Ruby – 1.8.5
* Ruby on Rails – 1.8.5
* OSCommerce – 2.2_u060817
* curl – 7.15.3
* crontab-1.10-8
* MySQL Server version: 5.0.51-log
* phpMyAdmin – 2.11.8.1
* MySQL client version: 4.1.15
* SiteStudio 1.8

Once you have a backup of your content please let us know and we can continue with the migration. After the migration has been completed you will need to re-upload all content and recreate any databases and email accounts as well as pointing your domain nameservers to a new location.

Your old IP Address and hosting content will remain active for two weeks to avoid downtime due to the propagation of the new nameservers. After two weeks the content will be removed from the old control panel.

Let me explain how transfer to new server block works:

1. You should create a full account backup and download it to your local hard drive. You can use control panel tools to backup your data and save it locally:
- download backup of web content using WebShell tool from control panel or any local FTP client
- download mysql backup using Export option in PHPMyAdmin
- to download your mail messages through any local mail client – receive them using Outlook or Thunderbird or another mail client.
Please contact us if you need any further instructions on this matter or if you face any difficulties downloading your data.

2. Once you are ready for the migration, we will transfer your account to the new server block. Transfer itself will take 15-30 minutes and you will get a new empty account. Your old control panel will become inaccessible, and you will be able to access new control panel only. Access to your data on old server block will be possible only if you use old IP addresses of your domains for two weeks.

3. You will need to re-add your domains on new control panel, re-create mail accounts and databases. Then re-upload all related content to a location and re-configure this data accordingly to a new control panel specifics.

4. You will be able to check your web sites at new server using new IP addresses assigned to your domains by new control panel. If all is ok, you will have to change nameservers for each domain to associate them with your new account. It will take 72 hours to be propagated all over the web.

5. Your sites will be online during whole procedure, because the data on old servers will still remain accessible. After you change nameservers and point domains to new server block, all connections to your sites will migrate from old server block to new one.

6. You will have two weeks to re-configure your account on new server block and re-upload all related content. After this your account will be completely removed from old server.

Please reply to this ticket once you are ready for us to perform the switch and we will be happy to proceed.
