I own several membership websites and am looking for an easy way to keep in touch with my members…

I am looking for a way to send sequential emails, and also one time ‘announcement’ type emails. Up until now I have been using external autoresponders, but this is becoming cumbersome.

I would like a php mailer (or if you know a better way I am all ears) that would get the subscribers info from my current sql database, with a few modifications, we would probably need to add a ‘messages’ table.

I need to have a ‘throttle’ variable on the mailer, to keep the load lighter on my server. I have one membership site with over 40K members…that would be way too much to try and blast out all at once, so something like an email every 5-6 seconds should be manageable.

Also the ability to send in batches, say 500 at a time. I would then just run this script via cron once an hour. I would like to be able to do this so I can send out the announcement emails as a priority, and jump the queue…in the messages table we would just have a ‘message_type’ and label announcements ’1′ and sequentials ’2′, and then sort by the priority…I hope that makes sense.

I am pretty confident I could do everything up to this point – but rather than have someone come into my hacked-together script it might just be easier for you to start fresh…

Here’s what I don’t know how to do:

I would really like this script to keep track of bounced emails, so that I am not continually trying to send emails to someone who has an invalid email address; something like a 3 strikes and you’re out system that would set the member to ‘un-subscribed’ (which I would just add to my members table).

I assume we would need to create a ‘bounceback’ email address for this purpose…

Once the email was sent it would set the ‘sending’ field to 0, so that it would just skip past all the ones that have been sent…I have a feeling we need to keep track of sent messages to figure out bounced emails – if not it would probably be easier and faster for the script to just delete that entry from the ‘messages’ table after sending.

We need an experienced php developer with experienced with web based mailers, Socks proxy and SMTP servers to integrate a email list verification php script into an existing web based mailer coded in php.

The specifications are as follows:

1. Fully integrate/modify the email verification script into the mailer. so that in the mailer interface where users have to upload email lists, there will be a button “Verify” which when clicked will trigger the script to verify the email list. After the verification is completed, the script will then automatically export the valid email results file and present the user a button to click to use the verified mailing list for the email campaign in the main mailing interface.

2. Modify the email verification script to support the use of Socks proxy to avoid the blacklist of the server IP during the email checking process. Ideally, it should support both Socks 4 and 5 (with authentication) versions

work. I used to work but I am not sure what happen.

When you create a message to go out it creates like queue at the bottom of screen. When the cron runs it takes the message away. but it is not going out. Everything in the mysql database is correct. I believe
the error is in the cron_mailer.php file.

I need a custom-built PHP function to send text e-mail messages. The function should be a simplified version of the mail() function built into PHP, and it should have the following fields: to, from, subject, message, additional headers. It should return an integer indicating the result of the attempted mailing. The function will be called as follows:

$to = “receiver@domain.com”
$from = “sender@domain.com”

$result = send_mail($to, $from, $subject, $message, $headers)

The possible return values should be:

0 – Successful

1 – Temporary error (such as full mailbox or server offline) where the mailing might be successful if tried again later.

2 – Permanent error where the mailing should not be tried again because the e-mail address is invalid and can’t be sent.

This project will just be the basic core of the mailing program, so it shouldn’t have anything complex such as a queue or log file. It should simply connect to the destination mailing server, send the message, and return the result integer.

The function should send mail as quickly and efficiently as possible, since it will be running in a loop to send a large quantity of messages at one time. The primary purpose of this project is that I need something must faster than the mail() function built into PHP.

The function will only send basic text messages, so it shouldn’t worry about any additional functionality that may be needed for images or attachments.

The function needs to be a standalone mailer, and not depend on the built-in mailing functions of PHP or a relay server. I believe the function needs to send using the SMTP protocol, but I’m not completely familiar with the underlying protocols of e-mail so please let me know if there would be a better way.
