Paypal Ipn Implimentation

I need help with implimenting paypal’s IPN Instant Payment Notification with our cart button on our website so that when a payment is made, it will automatically update our database as being paid.
I am able to pass to paypal other hidden API variables but am having a little trouble with the IPN side of the paypal’s cart checkout.
Do you have experience setting up paypal’s cart checkout? Will provide more information through PMS.
