Introduction:

We are currently in the process of building a Joomla CMS based site for a local conservation group. One aspect of our group’s activities is to monitor and track an indigenous protected fish species. We do this through tagging, satellite tracking, as well as by soliciting feedback from local anglers who either specifically target this species or catch it as by-catch from targeting other species.

What we would like to do is attract more anglers (and therefor more feedback) by inviting these anglers to join the website and provide detailed information on their catches – including time of day, location, size, etc. In essence a fishing log/form, however one in which we can subsequently parse user submitted data for a better understanding of how these anglers are impacting the species.

Functionality:

Since this is an entirely voluntary program, the fishing log must also offer the angler something in return for their assistance. Namely a convenient, web based app where they can quickly monitor their own statistics by being able to save, search, sort, statistically analyze, send to friends, or print their reports.
