Redirect 301 Maybe

Hello,
We have recently purchased a domain name that has excellent google ranking and a large amount of backlinks. We would like to have it redirected to our site however need to make certain that all backlinks and domain seo credit is forwarded without loss etc. Ready numerous boards i am told 301 is the best way please provide your bid and if you have any experienced feedback.
