Quick WordPress Job

Hi, I am taking over a WordPress (has a custom developed template) site and need help removing a video from the main homepage and replacing it with a static image (I have the image). I also need to learn how to hide new pages I make from being added to the main navigation bar. This job should take no time for someone who is familiar with WordPress.
