Smarty/q&a Script Adjustment

I am trying to build a Question & Answer site where users earn points for answering questions and the best answer receives the most number of points. I have a script installed on my server already, but it uses the Smarty Template Engine and that is something I am completely unfamiliar with. The PHP code itself seems to work to my satisfaction, but it just looks unprofessional and some existing items need to be moved.
I need someone to be able to either edit the Smarty code with the changes I require or advise me of an alternative solution to using the script. The changes are minor. For someone familiar with PHP this could be a very quick job.
