Search Widget

November 3rd, 2009

I run a directory website and I’m looking for a programmer who can build customized scripts that, when added to another website, will display a search box where users can do a search of my directory.

My hope is to gather a library of scripts that can be modified and adjusted as needed for use on different websites and to have scripts in different programming languages.

This project is for the first script. If you do a good job we will hire you to make new scripts, to rebuild and re-customize old scripts, and to build our script library. We also hope to find a fast and accurate programmer who is easy to reach by instant message and email and has a fast turnaround on building new scripts and fixing errors as they arise.

Please review the project description for the first widget (below) and the list of requirements needed on future widgets. Please do not bid if you lack the skills to program these kinds of scripts. Thanks.

Here is the project description for the first widget:

1. Please build this widget for use on a PHP website.

2. After project acceptance I will tell you which search fields and values to include

3. After project acceptance I will show you which site the widget will go on and I will explain the design elements I’d like you to create.

4. You’ll need to program the Search box to also serve as a banner and include 1 to 3 “do follow” links of my choice, along with customizable alt and title text for each url. This may mean using an image map as part of the design element.

Here are some of the things you will need to be able to do on All future widgets:

1. Must be familiar with different programming languages so you can build widgets to work on websites built in different programming languages.

2.Must be able to customize the search fields on the widget that displays on the other website. For example, one search widget may show only a zip code search, another widget may show an advanced search form. All of the fields in my current advanced search form will be possible fields.

3.The field values. In addition to customizing the search form fields, I will also need you to be able to customize the values for each field. For example, say an advanced form includes the field for States, then I will need to be able to choose which sites to include and have the option to include all or just some selected states.

4. You’ll need to be able to customize the design elements, colors, and text used on the widget.

5. You’ll need to be able to program the Search box to also serve as a banner and include 1 to 3 “do follow” links of my choice, along with customizable alt and title text for each url.

6. The search results for most widgets will be displayed on my domain rather than the domain where the script is.

7. The search widgets will be programmed to use my search system which is already in place, rather than having to build a new search system or a new front end search results page.

8. I would like some code included in the script so I can track the numbers of users who search each different search box and to be able to count the number of users who actually convert. A conversion happens when a user who has searched clicks on a listings to email, phone, or out-click.

Thanks for bidding!
