Virtueupload Conversion/update

We need to add an Artwork upload field and Data Content Loading upload field as product attributes to the product pages themselves, near the add to cart button. There is an older extension called Virtueupload but apparently it doesn’t work with our config. Probably best to work with that extension or one similar.
We are using Joomla 1.5.7 (in legacy mode) and VM 1.1.2
I know this conversion/update to the Virtueupload extension has been done before on this very site so I’m hoping to leverage that developers work. Unless there is an easier way to add the upload fields.
